What an honor it is to be part of a church family where we can love and serve one another.
I facilitate a small women's group where we come together once a month to discuss a chapter of a book we are reading, pray for each other and fellowship. What a great way to really build community with other women in a small setting. I've been meeting with these women for about a year and a few months now. Out of the group that started, only 3 of us are the original, and we've seen several women come and go. Such is the life in San Diego!
We just finished reading an excellent book called the Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson. It was such an encouragement for many of us who are still "newer" mothers. The book ended by talking about teaching our children about service.
So, I thought what better way to "practice what we preach" than by serving our church family!
We have many needs at our church. But at the moment nothing was pressing, so I thought what better way to love and encourage our men leaders than by baking cookies for them!! So we did. We baked homemade oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip. About 15 dozen cookies in all.
And then we wrote them little notes telling them how much we appreciate all that they do for the Body.
Oh I know how many hours go into caring for a church body....sort of. I probably don't know fully, but I think I have a pretty good idea. And these men serve after already working full days at an office.
I am thankful that these ladies wanted to take the time to thank them too.
"The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching." 1 Timothy 5:17
